Color Cues from the M.A.C. Chinese New Year Collection

Around the globe, Chinese New Year has been celebrated in rousing fashion from lanterns and festivals to family traditions and decorations. M.A.C. Cosmetics, the beauty industry’s favorite rebel, has ushered in the Year of the Fire Rooster like something fierce.

The brand’s Chinese New Year makeup collection was introduced just before the start of the festivities, and captures the energy of the holiday in a completely modern way. It’s a universal truth that makeup packaging is half, if not all, of the joy in cosmetics. And the design for this release does not disappoint with its dramatic botanical motif in red lace, black flocking and gold logo.

Could a M.A.C. lipstick or blush be the perfect style inspiration for your home? Why not? Here’s a look at M.A.C.’s Chinese New Year palette paired with PAGODA RED pieces to highlight the transformative power of color.

We are constantly open to influences and art forms at PAGODA RED, and this interpretation of such a significant cultural marker inspires us to think about color and mood differently.

Rosy reds, peach blossom tones and blush pinks are big parts of the new collection. Mulch is described as a red-bronze pearl; Shale, a mauve-plum and Sweet Lust is a pinky-rose hue.

While it would be easy to cast the collection as vixen territory, it’s full of surprises. The nine-piece eye shadow palette features earth-based tones in a choice of lustre, matte or velvet finishes.

True to the company’s cult status, the 10-piece debut is color-forward with three intense lipsticks, featuring the brand’s iconic shade, Russian Red.

We love this neoteric take on the Asian aesthetic, especially from a company known for their boundary-pushing visuals and iconoclastic inspiration. Interior design is so much more than style rendered in furniture and accessories. It’s creativity in living color.
