Practically, they&#8217;re long-wearing, water-resistant, fireproof, and they can be stacked in endless combinations. There, traditional Chinese roofs are covered in thousands of ceramic tiles, layered one on top of the other over the years. The curved tiles, unique to ancient Chinese architecture, are formed with clay on top of a round wooden mold, then cut to create each gently sloped shape.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1331 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pagodared.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0746-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pagodared.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0746-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.pagodared.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0746-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pagodared.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0746-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pagodared.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0746.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In countrysides around China, we&#8217;ve collected the tiles for their beauty and versatility, indoors and out. Reclaimed from 19th century Chinese courtyards, this <strong>limited lot of antique ceramic tiles<\/strong> are well weathered. Japanese architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pagodared.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/23\/kengo-kuma-redefining-light\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kengo Kuma<\/a> used vintage ceramic roof tiles to create a series of light-filtering screens for the <a href=\"http:\/\/kkaa.co.jp\/works\/architecture\/china-academy-of-arts-folk-art-museum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China Academy of Art Museum in Xiangshan<\/a>.
