Every spring, Asia Week New York<\/a>\u00a0captivates collectors, curators and design enthusiasts from around the world. The 10-day festival is like like the ultimate (shoppable) fusion of history, culture and conviviality. PAGODA RED founder Betsy Nathan made the quick jaunt to New York to connect with friends, see the sales and check out the exhibitions.\u00a0\u00a0From unexpected run-ins\u00a0to a must-stop for lunch, she shares her highlights\u00a0from the week\u2014providing some Instagrammable gems along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first stop after I landed was\u00a0Xian Fast Foods, where I had incredibly delicious hand-cut\u00a0Sichuan lamb noodles for lunch and heard some cool tunes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This was a wonderful vignette by Christie\u2019s<\/a>. I loved the Andy Warhol, the Alexander Calder fixture and the traditional Zitan\u00a0Chinese partners desk. To me, this is the environment of a true collector who finds beauty in different genres and moments and understands how to put it all together.<\/span><\/p>\n

I loved the very unusual\u00a0overall composition of this scroll by the Qing Dynasty Chinese painter Shen Quan, offered\u00a0at Christies in the\u00a0monumental sale of\u00a0Fujita Museum works. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"snowplum-scroll\"<\/p>\n

Another amazing pleasure\u00a0was this Snowplum scroll from the 1300s. It\u2019s a 10-feet long scroll and as I was admiring it, there was a swath of students and professors studying it. Hand scrolls range from 4 inches to under a\u00a0foot in height. \u00a0They were never intended to be\u00a0hung; instead, they were meant to be enjoyed intimately by two people, unfurled on long painting\u00a0tables. This one has a fascinating history with 14 collector seals, meaning that it\u2019s been passed from\u00a0emperor to emperor, expert to expert and artist to artist,\u00a0validated with their marks of approval along the way, over the course of its\u00a0700 year history.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am such an appreciator of stone and the natural world, so to see a proud stone in the spotlight, lights my fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

This burled vessel is the meeting\u00a0of nature and fine art. It\u2019s poetry realized.<\/span><\/p>\n

This juxtaposition\u00a0of the bronze in front of the Tibetan thangkas was fantastic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, I was excited by this work of Nine Ruyi Sceptors. These motifs were auspicious offerings of honor\u2013in this case, such wonderful color and so\u00a0modern!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
