Handcrafted of northern elmwood over a century ago, this simple wine table expresses the clean lines and elegant restraint that make Qing-dynasty carpentry so sought after. Emphasizing the table's refined form, a simple scalloped apron flows into unusual flared legs, linked by gentle humpback stretchers. Layers of dark lacquer coat the surface for a rustic finish with fantastic character. This console table was a gathering place for sipping wine and making toasts, traditions passed along as part of China’s ancient history of making and enjoying wine.
