This vintage poster from the 1930s features a fashionably dressed young mother posing with her son and daughter. The poster may have been given as a gift for the Chinese New Year, as the Mandarin characters for "son" and "girl" together mean "good," making the children auspicious emblems of good luck and prosperity. This poster, emphasizing the classic wish for a large, happy and healthy family also points to Western cultural influences at the time—the mother and daughter are dressed in traditional clothing while the son is dressed in European attire. A poem is drawn at the top of the poster and the artist’s name, Chen Shiqing, appears on the lower left hand corner.

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
