Many pre-coinage African currencies were formed after objects of inherent practical value. This sickle-form iron currency created by an artisan of the Matakam people of Cameroon was shaped after a hand-held sickle to honor the community's reliance on the tool for agricultural harvest. This sickle currency was also used during ritual dances at the beginning of the dry season, carried above the head to ensure renewed fertility and abundant harvests. Decorated with a carved figure at the hilt, this sickle currency lives on as a storied sculptural object. We've elevated the sickle on a custom steel mount for display on a table or bookcase.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
