In traditional Ashanti culture of central Ghana, stools indicate power, status, and lines of succession. The flat base, curved seat, and ridged supports of this particular hand-carved stool reference the Ashanti King Stool. This distinctive form, combined with the fact that elephant motifs were exclusively reserved for kings, mark this piece as a leader's stool. Animal representations were frequently gestural, relying on basic shapes and a sense of movement to evoke the spirit of the intended animal. Those efforts live on in this unique sculptural object.

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
