Banded Reed Basket

This basket was constructed in Southern China over a century ago. The skilled artisan who made it probably had years of training from a parent or older family member: the knowledge passing from generation to generation. This basket has a deceptively simple design, but the tightly woven reeds and elegant form demonstrate the craftsmen’s mastery of his art.
