This elegant display cabinet from the late 19th century exemplifies the perfection of line and proportion that makes classical Chinese furniture so timeless. The tall cabinet has a refined simplicity, devoid of surface carvings or painted decoration.

Finely crafted of northern elm (yumu), the design features ample storage with two open upper shelves, two shallow drawers, and an enclosed lower compartment with an interior shelf. A layer of brown lacquer imparts lustrous dark color and simple brass hardware complements the streamlined silhouette. Today, this handsome cabinet is the perfect bookcase for a storied collection of books, plants and sculptures.
