This 19th-century porcelain vase is an exquisite example of Chinese blue-and-white pottery. The vase is expertly formed with thin walls, widening to a flared lip and flanked by two molded scroll handles. Painted with richly saturated cobalt pigments, the vase depicts a regal peacock surrounded by peonies, a motif bestowing blessings of beauty and good fortune. The dark washes of blue beautifully contrast the creamy white background with striking design and a luxurious finish.
