Taking months or even years to create, this gorgeous carpet was painstakingly crafted by tying pieces of vegetable-dyed wool around a cotton warp in thousands upon thousands of individual knots. A true labor of love, the resulting carpet is marked by subtle imperfections that reveal the weaver's hand.

Crafted in the early 20th century, this rectangular Chinese area carpet is patterned with a floral diamond lattice design in a subdued palette of blues, pinks, and browns. The all-over pattern is enclosed by a simple meander and a main border of decorative latticework and ribbon-clad scholars' objects.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
