This gorgeous black lacquer coffer from China's Hebei province may have begun its life as part of a dowry. Dated to the mid-19th century, the coffer was likely used as both an altar for ancestor worship and as a storage cabinet for clothes, textiles, and other household items. The impressive sideboard has an expansive floating-panel top, straight sides, and an ornately carved front facade. The table apron is carved with a lively composition of trailing vines, lotus flowers, playful fish, and archaistic dragons - symbols of power, wisdom, and purity. With four drawers and three lower compartments, this coffer is a fantastic storage solution for traditional and modern interiors alike.
