This impressive set of doors dates to the turn of the century and originated as the outermost entrance gate to a traditional courtyard home in northern China. Crafted of northern elm (yumu), the rustic doors have developed a rich patina from years of use, enhancing the wood grain and imparting a wonderfully smooth texture. Hobnailed iron trim bands the edges, matched by an impressive latch and decorative plates in the shape of clouds or ruyi symbols. The doors have been elevated by a custom steel mount for display as a large indoor sculpture.
