This gilt carved panel began its life as a decorative addition to a 19th-century Chinese cabinet or canopy bed. Set within a mica-encrusted rectangular frame, the carving depicts a battle between several armor-clad warriors, likely a scene from Chinese mythology or classical literature. The lively scene is carved in high relief and backed by a panel of geometric fretwork. Elevated by a custom steel mount, this carved panel lives on as a storied tabletop sculpture.
