Likely commissioned for his studio, this elegant poet's table once gave a scholar ample surface space to draft poetry or calligraphy paintings. In order to cultivate uncluttered and inspiring surroundings, only a few carefully arranged objects would have been placed upon the table, such as a brush pot, inkstone, or table screen.

The table features a speckled stone top surface within a mitered elmwood frame, raised by straight round legs accented by simple spandrels. Besides the creative inspiration afforded by its natural patterning, the stone top insulated the table from burning incense and was easy to clean when ink was spilled. Showcasing the rich textures of its materials, this gorgeous stone top table is wonderful today as a writing desk or center table.
