Ideal as a console table in the modern home, this early 20th-century wine table has a classic design, featuring rounded legs, simple curved spandrels, and straight stretcher bars. Placed throughout the Qing-dynasty home, recessed leg side tables such as this were used for elevating instruments, serving food or tea, or as a gathering spot for drinking rice wine. Crafted of pine wood using mortise-and-tenon joinery methods, the elegant table has been darkened to a warm dark brown and exhibits a richly aged texture from a century of use.
