This early 20th century stool from Beijing was carved of huanghuali, also known as yellow rosewood, a precious and revered hardwood appreciated by collectors for its rarity and unusual grain patterning. The detailed carvings covering the stool's frame texture the legs and apron "like the scales on a dragon's back", with a pattern which we have never before encountered. The combination of luxurious material and mesmerizing texture makes this delicate stool an exceptional addition to a collection.
