A scholar relied on this inkstand to mix dry ink and water for calligraphy or painting. Inkstones were chosen to fit their owner's style, and this one was carved with two Fu dogs, inspiring strength of character. If you look closely, you can see a bit more wear above one of the Fu dog's brows, bringing to light the touch of time. The inkstone rests on a custom steel stand.
