The potter who crafted this large, wide-mouthed jar in Beijing used contrasting textures to add interest to the vessel’s simple barrel shape. Small grids incised just under the unglazed rim draw the eye to the upper portion, while the free application of brown glaze varies in thickness, at times running in expressive drips down the bowl’s surface.
