This gorgeous document trunk once sat in the studio of a Qing-dynasty scholar-official, used to store and protect his works of fine calligraphy and landscape painting. The trunk is minimally decorated, wrapped in a layer of light brown pig's hide with softly worn texture. The interior is lined with indigo fabric in beautiful contrast to the pale exterior. Exemplifying the elegant restraint of Ming and Qing dynasty scholarly wares, this document box links the present to the past with its timeless form.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
