Japanese Iron Bound Tansu

Designed to be portable and functional, Japanese tansu chests were versatile storage cabinets used for all kinds of purposes. This chest of drawers would have originally been used to store kimono. Created during Japan’s Taishō period (1912-1926), the chest is a beautiful combination of utility and beauty. Featuring four drawers of various dimensions, the wooden chest is punctuated by handmade iron pulls - with handles on the sides for easy transport. A small compartment on bottom row opens to reveal two shallow drawers, perfect for storing jewelry and accessories.
