This glazed ceramic jar is a Japanese sake bottle from the late-Meiji era. The jar has a rounded bottleneck form and is coated with a dark brown glaze in resemblance to bizen ware pottery. Applied in a contrasting light glaze, expressive calligraphy animates either side of the jar with graceful motion.
