Japanese Silver Lighter with Fine Lady

This engraved silver lighter exemplifies Japanese refinement in all crafts. Dated to the mid-20th century, the vintage lighter is decorated with a chased design of a fine lady wearing a traditional kimono and holding a parasol. The opposite side is decorated in shallow relief with an allover design of foliate scrollwork. A variety of engraving techniques enlivens the surface with texture and shading, while sheer plating introduces soft color to the woman's figure. The lighter is complete with its interior mechanism and stamped on the underside with a mark reading "Japan Sterling Silver."
