Carved from a single block of elmwood, this unusual piece was once part of a joist supporting a Qing-dynasty building. In addition to its unique shape, dovetail notches in the wood reveal the interlocking joinery techniques employed in traditional Chinese construction. A century of weathering has cloaked the wood's raw texture in a rich patina, accentuating the expressive grain patterns. Once purely functional, the piece takes on new life re-imagined as a sculptural stool or side table.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
