One of the most remote locations in Asia, the area now known as East Turkestan was a pivotal stop along the Silk Road, uniting the cultures of India, Persia, and China. This rich multicultural mix is reflected in the exquisite carpets created in the oasis towns of the Khotan region. Framed by peony blossoms in each corner, this antique khotan rug depicts a scene of rich abundance. The resplendent array includes flowering prunus branches, ornate censers, and vessels laden with floral arrangements and buddha's hand citrus. Hand-woven of vegetable-dyed wool, the carpet exhibits a gorgeous warm palette of oranges, pinks, and reds.
