Dated to the early 20th century, this lacquered Korean wedding chest is decorated with round medallions conveying three blessings for a good life. Enclosed by lattice-like fret patterns, the medallions offer blessings of luck (福), longevity (寿), and love (囍). The chest opens from the top, secured with a brass lock plate in the form of a butterfly, a traditional symbol of a life of prosperity and joy. The interior is lined with vintage paper patterned with Korean text. Likely originally used as a bridewealth chest during a traditional Korean wedding ceremony, the trunk lives on as a fantastic storage option for the modern home.

Original pin closure has been lost.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
