Although this beautiful 19th-century altar table was crafted in the late Qing-dynasty, its refined form hearkens back to earlier Ming-dynasty designs. The altar's wide table top surface is adorned with everted flanges and supported by rounded legs, linked by simple stretchers. The table apron is trimmed by a finely beaded edge, flowing into hand-carved "double-ear" spandrels atop each leg. Beautifully worn from centuries of use, the table has a rich, textured finish that calls to be touched.
