The owners of this charming, provincial coffer may have used it as altar tables for offerings to revered ancestors. It may also have been used as a storage chest for clothes and personal possessions. Each of the three door panels and drawers are completely unique. The colorful Chinese folk paintings at the top depict auspicious flowers, and below you see a scholar’s prized possessions flanked by a view of his studio.
