This painted cabinet beautifully represents 19th-century furniture from China's Fujian province. The simple, elegant form hearkens back to classical Chinese furniture designs, but the abstract painting and carvings were shaped by the artist’s individual aesthetic sense. These doors have extended dowels at the top and bottom that ingeniously fit into the upper and lower frames, freeing the cabinet from surface mounted hinges. For thousands of years, traditional Chinese architecture had no interior closets, so cabinets like this were the place where books, clothing, antiques, food and everything else was stored in a household.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
