Hand-carved from reclaimed wood, this rustic fish sculpture recreates early 20th-century Chinese folk art designs. The fish is carved with a squat, rounded body and brightly painted with reds and yellows. Common motifs in Chinese art, fish are emblems of harmony, wealth, and luck, and Buddhist symbols of "freedom from all restraints." Finished with a beautifully worn texture, this provincial fish looks wonderful on a bookcase or console as a tabletop sculpture.
