This pair of limestone Fu Lions was carved over 250 years ago and possibly once flanked the entrance to a Qing Dynasty home in China’s Shanxi province. These sculptural lion dogs or Shizi are symbols of power and grandeur and were believed to offer protection from evil spirits. The artisan who carved the statues imbued the stone with a remarkable sense of life and energy.
