With a beautifully worn, glossy finish, this petite creamware cylindrical vessel is a wonderful example of Maya pottery. The delicate vessel is etched with a geometric patterns and coated in a layer of clay slip for a creamy, light orange finish. Exposure to combusted materials during firing has resulted in subtle red-orange clouding on the surface, and centuries of use have speckled the vessel with imperfections. Though its unclear what the purpose of the vessel was, the simple, monochrome design suggests it was intended for everyday use. Beautifully hand-sculpted with balanced proportions and thin walls, the vessel is an exquisite display of Pre-Columbian artistry.
