A mixture of finely powdered tobacco, herbs, and spices, snuff was introduced to China in the 17th century by Western diplomats. Initially reserved for ranking members of Qing-dynasty society, the practice provided an opportunity to display one's refined aesthetic through collectible snuff containers.

This late 19th century snuff bottle charms with a minimal color palette and delightfully small scale. The petite bottle is shaped of a smoky agate with peachy grey color, smoothed to an oblong form without embellishment. The narrow neck is fitted with a domed cap of banded agate and brass, complete with a carved bone snuff spoon.
