Simple lines, a modest form, and a layer of hand-brushed red lacquer give this petite Qing-dynasty tray a timeless, provincial charm. The square tray has developed great character from years of use serving tea or food to friends and family gathered on traditional kang daybeds. The lacquered finish has developed a charming aged texture, with slight crazing and a smoothly worn patina. Iron fittings reinforce the corners, held in place by round hobnails. We've installed a rose-toned mirror to the base to transform the rustic tray into an elevated serving platter or wall mirror.
