Upon discovering a weathered steel drum that had been warped to resemble the sleeve of a garment, Atlanta-based artist Gordon Chandler was inspired to embark on a series of kimono sculptures formed from found metal scraps. Manipulating rigid materials to behave like silken fabrics, Chandler exploits the latent beauty of rusted and weathered metals to create compositions full of texture and character.

This tiny jacket sculpture is a miniature version of his larger, wall-mounted kimono works and is comprised of a single piece of folded sheet metal. Two folded corners form a rust-colored collar, wonderfully contrasting the red coated exterior. The artist's initials are stamped into the collar of the little jacket in place of a garment label.
