This early 20th-century round-top stool from China's Shanxi province is beautiful in its simplicity. The stool's elmwood seat was flat-sawn to reveal grain patterns running parallel to the surface, the deep grooves accentuated by a century of use. Four straight legs support the round seat, each linked by simple stretchers and assembled with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery. We love this versatile stool for its light finish and well-worn texture.
