This painted carrying box is a mid-century example of the traditional containers used for transporting food, water, and other goods from place to place. The tall handle allowed the container to be placed on a carrying pole balanced across the shoulders. Similar carrying boxes are used in wedding ceremonies and special occasions to deliver food offerings. This example has a rectangular shape with a removable lid and a tall, angular handle. The box is colored by red and black lacquer and painted on all sides with yellow and green floral motifs.

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
