Along with paper, ink, and inkstone, the brush was part of the Four Treasures found in a scholar’s studio. Arguably the most important tool, the brush served as a direct link to the artist’s creative spirit. This early 19th-century calligraphy brush would have once been used to write official documents or compose poetry. The brush handle is made of carved animal bone, darkened with a light stain to bring out its ridged texture. Set on a custom steel wall mount, this calligraphy brush becomes a unique towel bar or paper towel holder, adding storied history to a kitchen or powder room.
