Made around 1900 in Jiangsu province, this jewelry chest is ornamented with handmade brass hardware and was once used by a woman to contain her personal treasures in the intimate quarters of her traditional Chinese home. The top drawer has a lotus-shaped pull, while the lower two have pulls configured as ancient locks, symbols intended to protect from evil and to bring good luck and long life. Handmade of brass, the pulls contrast with the chest’s birch construction, left unfinished to showcase its natural grain and golden color. The chest’s top lifts to reveal a framed mirror.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
