This slate board would have been used by Qing-dynasty school children as part of the independent studies promoted in provincial academies. While the Ming dynasty can be credited with establishing local schools throughout the empire, it was the relaxed attitudes of the Qing dynasty that shifted education toward an emphasis on classics and literature. Set on a custom steel wall mount, we love it as a decorative wall display or an everyday chalkboard.
