With strips of hide and hand-forged iron staples, Senufo women combined wood and gourd into a lightweight water vessel. While terracotta was ideal for vessels in the home, this more portable version was best for collecting water. The combination of so many materials creates a wonderful blend of textures and forms. The natural curves of the gourd gently shape and gather into the mouth, before meeting into the lid. Taken together, these features create a sculptural object that calls out to its provincial heritage.
