This gilt carved panel began its life as a decorative addition to a 19th-century Chinese cabinet or canopy bed. Set within a mica-encrusted square frame, the carving depicts several figures in motion, including a warrior on horseback and a woman riding in a pulled cart. The lively scene is carved in high relief and backed by a panel of geometric fretwork. Elevated by a custom steel mount, this carved panel lives on as a storied tabletop sculpture.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
