An old steel drum exposed to the elements and bent in such a way as to suggest a sleeve inspired Gordon Chandler to create a series of kimono sculptures. Cut to suggest sleeves and a spread collar, this discarded piece of metal takes on the look of a traditional kimono. In this context, the dented, dimpled and rusted grey metal takes on the look of a richly brocaded fabric. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests the steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form. Each piece contains a unique serial number specific to the piece.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
