Smoked Bamboo Fruit Basket

A masterpiece of weaving, this lidded basket is finely woven of smoked bamboo strips using a technique known as chrysanthemum base plaiting. Comprised of two woven layers, the interior is patterned with light and dark strips to depict double happiness (囍), a traditional symbol of marriage and conjugal bliss. Resting on a carved base and surmounted by an arched handle, this lidded basket was likely originally used as a carrying box for fine meals, fruit, and other treats.
