This elegant 19th-century cabinet exemplifies the perfection of line and proportion that makes classical Chinese furniture so timeless. A statement piece brilliantly constructed of spruce with mortise and tenon joinery, the square-corner cabinet has a stacked, two-part design, with an upper section placed flush atop the lower for a seamless facade.

Originally used in a kitchen for storing dishware, food, or kitchen supplies, the tall cabinet provides ample storage, designed with five interior shelves and four shallow drawers. The upper compartment is enclosed by lattice-like panels of vertical slats along the doors and sides, finely worked with rounded corners and inset cutouts traced with beaded edges. Richly aged brass hardware adorns the cabinet front, including simple rectangular hinges and dagger-and-post lock plates with vase-shaped pulls.

Drawer hardware is replacement. Visible restoration to one slatted door.
