A clean-lined interpretation of an ancient form, this squared basin was hand-carved by artisans in China's Shandong province. The rounded interior and finely edged exterior offer an eye-catching combination of forms. The basin looks meticulously painted, but the mesmerizing pattern of the puddingstone is inherent to the stone, a material prized by scholars for its exceptional patterning. Puddingstone was the preferred material for calligraphy tables, not only for the way it looks but also due to the density of the surface it offers for painting. The weight, form, and patterning create an intriguingly beautiful object that calls to be touched.

Pudding Stone

Named for its resemblance to a fruit-studded pudding, the conglomerate stone known as ‘pudding stone’ has been a favored material for centuries, selected for its contrasting colors and mesmerizing patterns. Sourced from the mountains of Shandong Province, China, each stone is cut and polished to reveal the captivating natural forms held within.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
