This elegant garden stool was carved from a solid block of limestone by artisans in the Shanxi region of China. Drum-form stools such as this were traditionally used in gardens and outdoor pavilions where upper class scholars read, wrote, discussed art, and, in general, developed their intellectual sensibilities. This example has a minimal design, decorated only by a ring of circles at top and bottom, mimicking nail heads that secure the hide tops on actual drums. There is subtle, variegated rust color from iron content in the stone. We love this stone drum as a side table juxtaposed by a mid-century seat or as a stool in a grove of trees as the ultimate place to ponder.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
