More portable than chairs, stools were a versatile seating option for Qing-dynasty scholars, nobles, and peasants alike. The balanced proportions of this tapered stool from China's Shanxi province show us how masterfully traditional carpenters married form and function. The stool features a rectangular seat supported by four splayed legs linked with double side stretchers and straight floor stretchers. Gently weathered from years of use, the stool has an unfinished surface that showcases the raw texture of the wood, marked with traces of the original red-brown painted finish.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
