This tall, hand-formed terracotta jar is distinguished by the energetic incised pattern covering its unglazed exterior. Using a simple forked tool, the potter layered the vessel with dense etchings to enliven the simply shaped vessel with visual rhythm and all-over texture. Exposure to combusted materials during firing has darkened the exterior with an irregular, cloud-like finish. Used as a planter or a decorative vessel, this rustic jar is a wonderful addition to any interior.
