Turkish Shuttle

This exquisite Turkish weaving shuttle is made of wood, horn, lead, and bronze mounted on a contemporary custom steel stand. It is a beautifully formed sculpture that developed further character with age and use. From the stand height, the shuttle casts geometric shadows extending its presence. Textile weaving is one of the most ancient crafts in Turkey, and the implements to create them were fine. A skilled artisan may once have used this shuttle as she wove her colorful creations, the polished surface gliding easily through her loom’s weft.
